Ajax is going through a major turn of events. Softfootball earlier reported the club’s decision to part ways with head coach John Heitinga and now, technical director Alex Kroes is willing to step down too.

Even though his contract wasn’t due until the end of the season, Kroes had offered to hand over his duties if a suitable replacement is found. Some within the Ajax board urged him to stay a little while until gets stable.

In the Ajax match against Chelsea in the Champions League, Ajax were hit with a dangerous 5-1 from Chelsea.

According to reports from De Telegraaf which were echoed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on his official X handle, Ajax are already thinking about who could replace Kroes. He posted:

Ajax director Kroes, set to leave the club after decision to part ways with John Heitinga.

Both Maxwell and Jordi Cruyff have been approached as options, as @Telegraaf reported.

Maxwell is a former Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax player, and Jordi Cruyff currently works at Barcelona. While neither appointment is confirmed yet, these names show Ajax is looking at people who know the club well and have strong football experience.

Cruyff has been considered the best candidate because he has worked in a football director role before. On the other hand, Maxwell is also well recognized as he has close ties with the club, making him another potential candidate.

Ajax could be heading into a fresh era with Kroes ready to step down and after a series of bad results under Heitinga. With the search for a new leader ongoing, a right choice in leadership will help the club rebuild their confidence.
