Rob Edwards Set to Return as Wolves Manager on Three-and-a-Half-Year Deal

2 Min Read

Wolves are on the verge of announcing Rob Edwards as their new head coach, with an official confirmation expected early next week, after sacking former head coach Vitor Pereira following 10 games without a win. The 42-year-old is set to sign a three-and-a-half-year contract, marking a dramatic return to Molineux nearly a decade after he last worked there.

The news was announced by sport expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X account, revealing that everything to make the deal possible has been put in place and what is left is the official announcement by Wolves.

He tweeted:

Wolves will confirm Rob Edwards as new head coach from next week on a contract valid until June 2029. Middlesbrough will receive £3m compensation fee.

Softfootball reports Wolves have agreed to pay Middlesbrough around £3 million in compensation after Edwards was stood down from his role at the Championship club over the weekend. The deal is practically done, with the former defender expected to arrive on Monday to put pen to paper and meet the squad.

For Wolves fans, this appointment will bring back a familiar face. Edwards made over 100 appearances for the club during his playing days and even took charge briefly as interim manager back in 2016. Now, he’s stepping into a far tougher challenge, a Premier League side sitting rock bottom with just two points from 11 games and recently suffering a 3-nil defeat at the hand of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Talks are still ongoing over the structure of his backroom team, but Wolves’ hierarchy see Edwards as a long-term project rather than a short-term fix. They believe his understanding of the club, his calm personality, and his experience developing young players could be vital in steering the team through what looks like a difficult rebuild, especially if relegation becomes unavoidable.
