Sir David Beckham Knighted by King Charles III in Emotional Windsor Castle Ceremony

3 Min Read

In what he described as the proudest moment of his life, football legend David Beckham was officially knighted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

Softfootball reports that the 50-year-old former England captain received the title of Knight Bachelor in recognition of his exceptional contributions to sport and charity, joining an elite circle of British icons honoured by the Crown.

In an earlier report David Beckham revealed that the closest player to him in terms of style is Trent Alexander-Arnold, and with this recent recognition the bar has been raised a bit higher for the likes of Trent or any other footballer trying to reach Beckham’s heights.

Beckham, visibly moved, told reporters after the ceremony that the recognition meant more than he ever imagined, and fans of Inter Miami can take solace from this recognition following their team’s last defeat to Nashville FC.

He was joined at the royal event by his wife, Victoria Beckham, now formally Lady Victoria Beckham—and his parents, Ted and Sandra Beckham, who looked on proudly as he knelt before the King. The Royal Family official X handle uploaded the video via their official X account.

The traditional investiture saw King Charles tap Beckham on both shoulders with a ceremonial sword, officially conferring knighthood. His attire for the occasion carried personal significance: an elegant morning suit designed by Victoria, inspired by the style of a young King Charles.

Beckham’s knighthood, first announced in the King’s Birthday Honours List in June, crowns a career that has transcended sport. On the field, he earned 115 caps for England, third on the nation’s all-time list, and played a key role in London’s successful bid for the 2012 Olympics.

Off the pitch, Beckham has been a dedicated humanitarian. Since 2005, he has served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and later launched the 7 Fund, an initiative supporting children in crisis around the world.

The newly minted Sir David Beckham now joins a distinguished line of footballing legends knighted for their service to the game, including Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Geoff Hurst.

Also recognised at the Windsor ceremony were Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro, who was appointed a Companion of Honour, and actress Elaine Paige, who was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
