Manchester City Congratulates Nico O’Reilly as He Earns First England Call-Up

3 Min Read

Softfootball reports that Manchester City have taken to their official website and social media platforms to congratulate Nico O’Reilly, who has earned his first-ever senior call-up to the England national team for this month’s international fixtures against Wales and Latvia. This comes just after the Youngster helped the Citizens grind out a tough 1-nil victory over Brentford in the English Premier League.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel made the decision to draft in the City youngster following Reece James’ withdrawal due to injury. The Chelsea skipper picked up a knock during his club’s recent Premier League clash and was ruled out as a precaution.

For O’Reilly, this is a major step in what has already been a brilliant campaign. The 20-year-old midfielder, who has represented England from Under-15 through to Under-20 level, now gets his long-awaited chance to feature for the Three Lions at senior level.

It’s been quite the journey so far. A proud graduate of the city’s famed academy, O’Reilly has featured nine times across all competitions this season under Pep Guardiola, leaving a strong impression with his energy, creativity, and vision on the ball. Last month, his progress was rewarded with a new long-term contract, keeping him at the Etihad until the summer of 2030 a clear sign of how highly the club rates him.

Manchester congratulated the young baller in a post made on the club’s official website.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate Nico on his call-up.

O’Reilly will now join John Stones and James Trafford as part of England’s senior setup. The Three Lions will first face Wales in a friendly at Wembley on Thursday, October 9 (7:45 PM BST), before heading to Latvia for a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, October 14.

It’s a proud moment for both player and club one that feels like just the beginning of something special.
