Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly closing in on his return to Real Madrid action after the international break, providing a major boost for Xabi Alonso’s side. The summer signing endured a frustrating setback earlier this month, suffering a hamstring injury just minutes into his UEFA Champions League debut against Marseille.
Softfootball understands that the injury piled up on what has been a disappointing start to life as a Real Madrid player for the Englishman, whose performances had not been at the level expected in the early parts of the campaign.
The 26-year-old’s start to life in Spain has been far from average after an early injury during the Club World Cup, he returned to Xabi Alonso’s side at the start of the La Liga season, only to be rotated out by club captain Dani Carvajal.

Just as the midfielder looked set to reclaim his place, he suffered another setback in the Champions League against Marseille on 16 September. Initial assessments suggested an eight-week recovery period, which would have ruled him out of Real Madrid’s visit to Anfield on 4 November.
However, the picture changed this weekend when Carvajal picked up a separate knock that is expected to keep him sidelined for around a month. Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to return from injury in time for Real Madrid’s trip to Anfield in November. The right-back will be sidelined for matches against Kairat Almaty, Villarreal, Juventus and Barcelona.
According to the latest update from Fabrizio Romano quoting Marca on his Facebook page, Trent is now expected to be fully fit after the upcoming international break. It would mean that the 26-year-old England international could return ahead of schedule and make his comeback sooner than initially anticipated. The post reads:
BREAKING: Trent Alexander-Arnold will be BACK after the international break, says Marca.
This could come as a big boost for Real Madrid, especially considering that they are set to play arch-rivals FC Barcelona on 26 October in the first El Clasico of the season.
With Dani Carvajal also suffering an injury last week and getting sidelined for a month, his availability for the Clasico is a major question mark as things stand, even though the player wants to return in time for the game.
But, in case Real Madrid recover Trent after the international break, there will be no need to rush things with Carvajal and let him recover with ease, especially considering his age and injury record.
The international break gets underway from 5 October, and Real Madrid will return to action on 19 October in an away game against Getafe. A few days later, they face Juventus in the UEFA Champions League (22 October) before the Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu. It now remains to be seen if Trent is fit and ready for these crucial matches.
Alexander-Arnold’s move to Madrid last summer still divideD opinion on Merseyside. He left his boyhood club as a Premier League champion under Arne Slot, yet many supporters felt betrayed by the way he allowed his contract to run down. Now, with both clubs again drawn together in Europe, the focus has shifted to whether he will be fit to face his former team at Anfield on 4th of November.
