Chelsea star Cole Palmer was desperate to face Manchester United – Maresca

Enzo Maresca has revealed that Cole Palmer was desperate to face Manchester United and pushed himself to play the match, Softfootball reports.

The England international started the game at Old Trafford but came off in the 20th minute with injury as Manchester United went on to win 2-1 courtesy first half goals from Bruno Fernandez and Casemiro.

However, in the post-match interview shared by Chelsea’s official media, Maresca has explained in details what happened. He said:

Cole tried this morning, he had a test this morning to play this game, he was not 100 per cent fit, he made a fantastic effort to play this game, but he was not 100 per cent. He did this morning a test, he wanted to play this game for the team, to be close, so the effort has been huge from him, but then after 20 minutes he started to feel something, so we decided to change him.

The England international was the best Chelsea player against Bayern even though they lost 3-1 in midweek at the Allianz Arena in the UEFA Champions League opener.

Cole Palmer will definitely not be involved in the match against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday but Maresca will hope that the midfielder will not be out for too long as he is important to the young Chelsea side.
