Portuguese legend, Luís Figo has stirred debate with his latest comments on Barcelona’s current squad. The former Ballon d’Or winner who famously crossed the divide from Barcelona to Real Madrid, claims there is only one player from the Catalan giants he would consider bringing to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Once upon a time, it was Luis Figo who sent shockwaves across the football world after his controversial transfer from FC Barcelona to Real Madrid. There have been multiple transfers like that, but the Figo one has been regarded as one of the wildest for the fans of both LaLiga sides.
Barca triggered Figo’s release clause in July 2000 and made it one of the most stunning transfers in the history of football. This transformed the Portuguese star into a polarising figure in El Clásico stories, also attracting a huge amount of hate from Barcelona supporters.

Fast forward to 25 years later, in a post on Fabrizio Romano Facebook page, Luis Figo was presented with an interesting hypothetical question during an interview. He was asked, “If he could pick one Barcelona player right now to join Real Madrid, who would he choose?, The post reads:
Luis Figo: “If I had to sign a Barcelona player for Real Madrid, it would be Pedri
The Portuguese legend didn’t think twice before giving his answer. He picked Pedri as the Barcelona player he’d bring to Real Madrid. Luis Figo’s choice is very reliable in every sense. Pedri is currently considered one of the top midfielders in Europe.
Very few can blame Figo for choosing Pedri, as he has seemingly become the heartbreak of the Barcelona midfield and is now regarded as one of the best midfielders in Europe.
At just 22, Pedri has over 200 competitive appearances for Barcelona. But what stood out for the young midfielder under Hansi Flick is not his performance but his fitness condition.
The injury woes Pedri was so synonymous with appears to be a thing of the past and the Spanish international has been an ever-present figure in the Barcelona starting eleven.
Figo believes a Pedri switch to the Bernabeu would cause a shock similar to his own 2000 transfer. Given the rivalry’s history, it’s hard to argue.
Interestingly, Pedri had a trial at Real Madrid earlier in his youth career, but was told that the midfielder ‘did not meet the standard’.
In a related post, Softfootball reported on Monday that Barcelona star Lamine Yamal lost his passport in Turkey. The player misplaced the document following Spain’s Euro qualifier against Türkiye on Sunday.
