Softfootball reports that Nottingham Forest have confirmed their 22-man squad for the Europa League league phase, with £37.5 million summer signing Omari Hutchinson among the notable omissions.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder, who joined from Ipswich Town in August, has only made two substitute appearances so far and will not feature in Europe this autumn.

Forest’s exclusion of Hutchinson, along with Oleksandr Zinchenko and several other summer arrivals, comes down to UEFA’s squad regulations. Clubs must include four ‘club-trained’ players, those who spent at least three years at the club between the ages of 15 and 21, in their List A squad. Forest only have one, Ryan Yates; despite recently snatching 17-year-old starlet Chinaza Nwosu from West Ham, meaning they fell three short of the requirement and could only register 22 players instead of the maximum 25.

Nottingham Forest released the list on its official website and uploaded it also on the team’s X account.

Forested tweeted:

Our squad for the league phase of the UEFA Europa League has been confirmed.

That shortfall has forced Forest to leave out Hutchinson, Zinchenko, Angus Gunn, Jair Cunha, Cuiabano, Jota Silva, and striker Taiwo Awoniyi.

Other new signings such as Dan Ndoye, Dilane Bakwa, and Douglas Luiz have been included, while younger players like Zach Abbott are eligible for the unlimited List B.

Forest begin their Europa League campaign away to Real Betis on September 24, with the squad allowed up to three changes ahead of the knockout rounds.
