In 2024/25, Vázquez competed in 32 La Liga matches for Madrid, scoring once and providing 5 assists. He turned down various offers from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and Deportivo La Coruña to join Leverkusen after Erik ten Hag’s clear sporting project and foresight in this situation.
Overall, the league sees Vázquez as a direct replacement for Jeremie Frimpong, as his leadership, experience and depth will be helpful to them in the Bundesliga along with the Champions League.

He joined Madrid’s youth system in 2007 and only played briefly on loan in Spain, he has never played for another club, this is a new opportunity for the experienced player and an opportunistic signing for Bayer Leverkusen as they gear up for their first seaon without Xabi Alonso.
