Bayer Leverkusen gaffer Erik Ten Hag is weighing up whether to reunite with free agent Victor Lindelof ahead of the new season.
As gathered by Softfootball, Leverkusen are exploring the possibility of signing Victor Lindelöf, with the Swedish defender available on a free transfer after leaving Manchester United.
The Bundesliga champions value the 31-year-old’s experience, leadership and composure, seeing him as a potential asset to bolster their backline ahead of a busy campaign.
Lindelöf, capped over 60 times by Sweden, spent seven seasons at Old Trafford, where he worked closely with Erik ten Hag during the Dutchman’s tenure.
As reported by German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Ten Hag is interested in bringing Lindelof despite an ongoing deal for youngster Loic Bade.
He wrote on his X handle as this:
“Victor #Lindelöf is being discussed at Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
“They value his experience and leadership qualities. The 31 y/o centre-back is a free agent. Erik ten Hag knows him very well. #MUFC
“Independently of that, Leverkusen are in the process of finalising the transfer of Loïc Badé.”
Leverkusen’s interest in Lindelöf comes as they prepare to finalise the signing of Loïc Badé, a move designed to strengthen their central defensive options. While Badé represents a long-term project, Lindelöf’s arrival would add an immediate, proven presence in the squad.
This is because Ten Hag’s side will be competing on multiple fronts this season, including a Champions League campaign, prompting a focus on depth and experience in recruitment.
No formal offer has yet been made for Lindelöf, but discussions are ongoing as Leverkusen weigh their options.
