It felt magical playing at Old Trafford again – Ex-Man United star De Gea reveals

Manchester United legend, David de Gea made an emotional return to Old Trafford on Saturday as he featured in goal for Fiorentina against the Red Devils, Softfootball reports.

Before the encounter, De Gea was honoured in what looked like a testimonial which he never had when he was let go by former Coach, Erik Ten Hag back in 2023. United Captain, Bruno Fernandez presented him with a commemorative award and he received it with smiles.

The Spanish goalkeeper pulled off some saves to remind everyone of his greatness. De Gea was substituted by Tomasso Martinelli three minutes from full-time to a very loud applauds from the fans. The match ended 1-1 during the regular 90 minutes but Manchester United won the Snapdragon Cup via penalties.

De Gea took to his official X handle to appreciate the love he got from the supporters at Old Trafford.

He wrote:

“A magical moment for me and my family to come back to Old Trafford – my home From the bottom of my heart – I want to say thank you for the reception – for all the love you shown me today.

“To the supporters that never stopped being with me throughout my time at this club. Our paths may cross again but for today. We’ve seen it all.”

De Gea made over 1,000 saves during his time at Manchester United and rated as one of the best goalkeepers of all-time that ever represented the Red Devils. In his final season at United, De Gea was voted the best goalkeeper in the premier league.

Fiorentina will play their first Serie A match of the new season against Cagliari away on August 24 while Manchester United resume Premier League action against Arsenal at Old Trafford on August 17.
