Newcastle submits official bid for Sesko as deal intensifies

Softfootball can confirm that Newcastle United have submitted an official bid worth €90 million to RB Leipzig for highly-rated striker Benjamin Šeško, as the Magpies look to accelerate their summer rebuild.

The offer, as first reported by Fabrizio Romano, is structured as €80 million guaranteed plus an additional €10 million in performance-based add-ons.

According to Fabrizio Romano on his verified X handle, Newcastle is ready to weigh in on Sesko’s matter with an official bid.

He wrote:

“Newcastle have sent official bid to RB Leipzig for Benjamin Šeško worth €90m package.

“€80m plus €10m add-ons on the table from #NUFC. No decision yet from the player.

“Manchester United confirmed again to RB Leipzig that they will bid if Šeško picks them.”

Šeško, 22, remains one of the most sought-after young strikers in Europe right now, and Newcastle is keen to position itself as an ideal next step in his development. The Slovenian international enjoyed a breakthrough season in Germany, scoring 18 goals in all competitions for Leipzig during the 2024/25 campaign.

However, no final decision has been made by the player, with Manchester United still firmly in the conversation. Softfootball understands, as reported earlier, that United have made their intentions clear to RB Leipzig; a formal offer will arrive only if Šeško signals that Old Trafford is his preferred destination.

The striker’s camp is expected to assess the proposals in the coming days, with all options on the table. Both United and Newcastle are willing to offer prominent sporting roles, but financial packages and Champions League trajectories may prove decisive.

For Newcastle, Šeško represents a foundational piece of their next evolution: an intelligent No. 9 with the capacity to lead the line for the next decade. His arrival would likely signal the end of the club’s long-term pursuit of alternatives such as Alexander Isak’s deeper role or calls to repurpose Harvey Barnes centrally.

Šeško, meanwhile, is in no rush, and Leipzig remains open to negotiating the structure of the deal, whether now or later in the window.
