Manchester United have had their loan request for Emi Martinez shut down by Aston Villa. Softfootball understands that United had been interested in Martinez since news filtered that he is to leave Villa park this summer.
The Manchester side had been looking for a way to solve their dilemma as they had thought of offloading Andre Onana who still has 3 years more on his contract. However Onana’s departure will mean the club hits a loss on the player whom they got for £47.2m from Inter Milan in 2023.

Villa are not ready to entertain any temporary offers as they want to balance their wage structure and be on their right with the books of the Financial Fair Play Rule. Martinez who joined Villa from Arsenal in 2020 is one of the highest paid players in Villa park.
At the moment, Onana is out injured for a few weeks but it is reported that the goalkeeper have fallen out of the good books of gaffer, Ruben Amorim, who has told the club management to get a new goalkeeper.
Transfer journalist, Fabrizio Romano spoke on the United-Villa situation via his verified X handle. He wrote:
Aston Villa have rejected an approach from Man United for Dibu Martínez on a loan deal. Man United still deciding internally with experienced GK and young GK as options.
Lammens from Royal Antwerp remains one of the main names.
According to Fabrizio, United are still confused if they want a younger keeper or an experienced one to either replace or provide more competition for Andre Onana.
United have only two senior team signings so far this summer with Matheus Cunha joining from Wolves for a fee of £62.5m and recently unveiled, Bryan Mbeumo who joined for £71m from Brentford.
However, the club has witnessed lots of exits with Marcus Rashford joining Barcelona on loan, Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof released and Johnny Evans retired. United still have 4 players – Tyrell Malacia, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho listed to leave the club this summer.
