“This is why I joined Manchester United”, Mbeumo explains…

After the completion  of his long awaited move from Brentford to Manchester United, Bryan Mbeumo has explained why he chose to sign for Manchester United despite interests from different clubs that wanted him. Softfootball followed as  Mbeumo finalised his 71m move to United after long negotiations.

Mbeumo bagged 20-goals last season for Brentford and he followed his coach, Thomas Frank and captain, Christian Norgaard out of the club after both had joined Tottenham and Arsenal respectively.

While speaking to Manchester United media in an interview, the Cameroonian international explained why he chose United ahead of other clubs and the influence Ruben Amorim had in his decision.

He narrated that:

My first top was Manchester United’s top with Ronaldo behind.

It’s just such a big club and I’m really happy to be here.

He [Amorim] seems really close to his players.

His mentality, his winning thinking every time, this is the thing I need

I always wanted to play at the highest level. Now I’m here and I just want to show what I can do.

Mbeumo has been one of the most productive forwards in English football in recent seasons, and has averaged 18 goal contributions per campaign since winning promotion with Brentford to the top-flight. He hit a peak last year as he scored nearly one-third of all Brentford’s league goal.

The player joined his new teammates for the first time today as United posted his arrival on their verified X handle.

The 25-year-old penned on a five-year contract, with the option of a further 12 months with United and sees his £70m become Brentford’s biggest sale in the club’s history. Mbeumo’s fees outshines his former teammate, Ivan Toney’s £40m move to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli in August 2024.

Mbeumo will now join United on their preseason tour to the United States as they face West Ham United on Sunday, July 27th.
