Manchester United have endured a slow summer transfer in terms of incomings and outgoings as only Matheus Cunha remains the big name signing so far at the club, Softfootball understands.

After finishing 15th last season, the Red Devils were expected to make multiple new signings but so far they signed just two players while expecting the likes of Antony, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Malacia to leave the club this summer as they are not part of Reuben Amorim’s Plans for the new season.

Preparation for next season has hit top gear and in light of that, the club has announced a new shirt number for another new signing, Diego Leon. The Red Devils shared the update via their Official X handle, with a brief message and a link to the full statement on their website.

The Paraguay international will now wear the number 30 shirt for the club. Man United agreed a deal for Leon in January and he passed his medicals but had to return to Cerro Porteno to finish the season because he was still 17 at the time.

He completed his move to Old Trafford after his 18th birthday and joined officially on July 1, 2025. Diego Leon wore number 37 for his former club Cerro Porteno and donned the no.4 jersey for the U-21’s of Paraguay.

Leon will not be the first player to wear the number 30 for Manchester United. The same number had been worn by the likes of John O’Shea and Guillermo Varela, and was vacated by goalkeeper Nathan Bishop.

Softfootball had earlier reported that Diego Leon arrived at Manchester United to fight for his place as a regular starter, not sent on loan.

Manchester United fans will have the chance to catch a glimpse of Pedro Leon in their friendly against Leeds United in Stockholm on Saturday.
