Club World Cup: Luis Enrique explains the full-time clash, calls it “a very stressful situation”

Softfootball has gathered the clarification of PSG coach Luis Enrique on the altercation that happened between his players and Chelsea after the FIFA Club World Cup final last Sunday. 

According to the BBC, Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has moved to clarify his involvement in the fiery post-match scenes that followed PSG’s 3-0 loss to Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup final, insisting he was only trying to defuse tensions.

The Spanish coach appeared to make contact with Chelsea forward João Pedro during the fracas, with footage showing what looked like a slap.

However, Enrique downplayed the moment and said his only intention was to prevent further escalation.

“I have no problem expressing my feelings; it was a very stressful situation,”

he said.

“There was a lot of pressure at the end of the game. It’s impossible to avoid these things sometimes.

“Everyone was involved. It wasn’t ideal, but it was the result of the pressure of a final. I saw Maresca, I saw other people getting heated, and we had to separate the players.

I don’t even know where it all came from, but I stepped in to stop things from getting worse.”

The incident capped a difficult night for PSG, who were thoroughly outplayed as Chelsea secured the title in style, and could review Enrique’s actions as part of their post-match disciplinary assessment by the FIFA World Club Cup team.

As Softfootball had earlier reported, Joao Pedro’s response to the altercation that happened between him and Enrique was that he refused to speak about it. 

Pedro, when asked about the altercation, said that it was expected for PSG to express their attitude due to the defeat and said that,
