On Monday, 24th August 2026, Ethiopia, through its official X handle, announced that it has submitted its bid to CAF to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Softfootball understands this move is fully backed by the FDRE government, with the Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) presenting the official Bid Handbook, addressing all CAF requirements and reaffirming the nation’s complete readiness to host Africa’s biggest footballing event.
As at the time of this report, Ethiopia appears to be the only country to have submitted a bid for the 2028 AFCON, while the 2027 edition will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
