The death of Diogo Jota is one that has sent the whole football community into mourning. Softfootball earlier announced the sad passing of the 28-year-old superstar and his brother, and now we bring to you details of what happened.
According to our findings, Jota and his brother Andreas Silva were driving a Lamborghini in a town called Cernadilla in northwestern Spain along the borders of Portugal.
They attempted to overtake on the A-52 highway when tragedy struck, and they suffered a tire blowout. The vehicle went off the road and rolled over before eventually catching fire. All this happened just after 12:30 a.m.
It was so brutal that there was nothing to save. When the emergency services responded, the two brothers were gone.
Pictures from the scene show the dismantled remains of the Lamborghini flipped over on the side of the highway, with rescue workers investigating and trying to clean the mess.
Visible skid marks and burn traces indicate where the car left the road and turned into a fireball, while shattered parts and debris were scattered across the ground.
The route where the accident happened is the popular A-52 in the province of Zamora, a route plied by drivers travelling from northern Portugal towards Santander and Bilbao or heading northeast toward France.
Their death was confirmed by emergency services at approximately 12:35 a.m.
