Vince Chijioke Osuji has been invited to the Super Eagles camp ahead of Nigeria’s international friendly against Russia.

The call-up comes shortly after Reims midfielder John Otomewo was drafted in as a replacement for Wilfred Ndidi, with head coach Éric Chelle continuing to make adjustments to his squad ahead of the October 6 encounter.

Softfootball understands from internal sources that the 20-year-old centre-back has been invited as a replacement for Basel defender Akpe Victory, who is no longer available for the trip.

Osuji’s inclusion further highlights Chelle’s willingness to provide opportunities for young players as he continues to expand the Super Eagles player pool.

The defender is a former Nigeria U-17 international and recently completed a move from Club Brugge to Norwegian side Tromso in search of regular playing time and further development.

His performances and potential have now earned him an opportunity to join the senior national team setup.

The friendly against Russia is expected to provide Chelle with another chance to assess emerging talents as he looks to build for future competitions.

Osuji will be hoping to make a strong impression in camp and push for his first appearance in Super Eagles colours when Nigeria faces Russia on October 6 at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.

The latest call-up continues Chelle’s policy of blending experienced internationals with promising young players as he shapes the future of the national team.
