Chad have taken a new step in the development of their football after the country entered into a strategic partnership with LALIGA aimed at strengthening the sport at various levels.

Chad’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Naïr Abakar, visited LALIGA’s headquarters in Madrid, where the collaboration was formalised with LALIGA president Javier Tebas. The multi-year project will focus on talent identification, coaching, institutional development and the professionalisation of Chadian football.

The first phase will include a nationwide talent identification programme, support for the creation of a future National Academy, training for coaches and football administrators, as well as an assessment of the country’s domestic league.

The partnership is designed to transfer knowledge and establish structures that can continue benefiting Chadian football over the long term. LALIGA described the initiative as an unprecedented collaboration for the organisation in sub-Saharan Africa.

However, the development also brings back attention to comments previously made by Kombo several months ago, when he discussed the strength of Europe’s major football leagues. At the time, Kombo identified the Premier League as the leading competition, pointing to its financial resources and established structures as key factors behind its position.

Kombo’s earlier assessment was made months before the announcement of the Chad-LALIGA partnership and was not a reaction to the new agreement.

The Premier League has substantial financial mechanisms supporting its clubs and the wider football pyramid, while its centralised broadcasting and commercial revenue distribution is a major part of its financial structure.

Chad’s new collaboration with LALIGA now represents a separate effort to build stronger football foundations domestically, with youth development, professionalisation and knowledge transfer at the centre of the project.
