Jorge Jesus’ side made the perfect start when João Félix opened the scoring in the 17th minute. The forward finished clinically with his right foot after Nuno Mendes found him with an incisive diagonal pass, exposing space behind Norway’s defensive line.
Norway responded strongly after the interval and eventually found their equaliser through Erling Haaland in the 51st minute. The Manchester City striker continued his remarkable international scoring form, briefly giving the hosts renewed belief at the Ullevaal Stadium.
Portugal responded almost immediately. Just three minutes after Haaland’s equaliser, Gonçalo Ramos restored the visitors’ advantage with a powerful near-post header from João Cancelo’s inviting delivery.
Norway dominated possession and created more opportunities, finishing with 20 shots compared with Portugal’s nine. However, Diogo Costa proved decisive in the closing stages.
The Portuguese goalkeeper produced several outstanding saves, including a crucial reaction stop from Martin Ødegaard’s close-range header and a spectacular one-handed save to deny Haaland’s powerful volley.
Costa finished with an impressive 8.6 rating, while Félix earned 7.9 after his influential attacking display. For Norway, Haaland, with Ødegaard and Patrick Berg were also impressing despite the defeat.
