Real Madrid have confirmed that Kylian Mbappe has suffered a hyperextension of the posterior capsule in his left knee, with the French forward expected to spend around two weeks on the sidelines.
The injury occurred during France’s 1-0 Nations League victory over Turkey on Friday, with Mbappe scoring the decisive goal before being forced off shortly afterwards. The Real Madrid forward found the net in the 54th minute with a right-footed finish, but experienced discomfort in his left knee during the action and was unable to continue.

Real Madrid’s medical services carried out examinations after Mbappe returned to the Spanish capital. The club’s official statement confirmed the diagnosis as a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of the left knee, with his recovery set to be monitored by the medical team.
While Real Madrid did not officially specify a recovery period, reports indicate that Mbappe is expected to be unavailable for approximately 10 to 14 days. That would put him in line for a return around the beginning of October, although the club is expected to take a cautious approach given the nature of the injury.
The setback will nevertheless be monitored closely because it involves the same left knee that caused Mbappe problems during the 2025-26 campaign. However, the latest examinations have not indicated major structural damage, providing relief for Real Madrid ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.
Mbappe is expected to miss the remainder of France’s current international commitments, but could return for Real Madrid’s La Liga action after the international break.
The bigger objective will be ensuring the France captain is fit for the first El Clásico of the season against Barcelona on October 25, a fixture he could be available for if his recovery progresses as expected.
