Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has urged the club to carefully monitor Taiwo Awoniyi following the striker’s broken nose and concussion.
The Nigeria international suffered the injury during Forest’s FA Cup victory over Exeter City after scoring his team’s second goal.
Awoniyi was forced off following a collision with Exeter goalkeeper Joe Whitworth, with Chris Wood replacing him as Forest progressed in the competition.
Santo confirmed that the striker was in pain but appeared to be in good spirits after the incident. However, the Forest boss stressed that the club would follow the necessary medical protocols before deciding whether Awoniyi could return to action.
Santo said:
He broke his nose and suffered a concussion, so we have to be really careful.
The manager’s comments suggest that Awoniyi’s availability for Forest’s next Premier League fixture would depend on his recovery and medical assessment.
Awoniyi’s return to form has been important for Forest, making his fitness a major concern as the club continues its push for a strong finish to the season.
