Real Madrid have confirmed that defender Raúl Asencio has suffered a muscle injury in the rectus femoris of his right leg, with the Spaniard expected to be sidelined for approximately six weeks.

The setback comes at a difficult time for both the player and the club, as Asencio had been viewed as one of the leading candidates to leave the Santiago Bernabéu during the summer transfer window.

Softfootball understands that Real Madrid were prioritizing the defender’s departure as part of efforts to trim the squad, reduce the wage bill and create space for further arrivals under manager José Mourinho.

The absence could also open the door for younger defenders to impress during pre-season and the opening weeks of the campaign. Highly rated youngster Dean Huijsen is among those who could benefit from the increased opportunities while Asencio continues his rehabilitation.

News of the injury has also sparked debate among supporters, with some fans speculating that the setback could temporarily halt ongoing discussions regarding the defender’s future. However, Real Madrid’s medical staff are focused solely on ensuring Asencio makes a full recovery before any decisions are taken regarding a possible transfer.
