Softfootball can confirm Chelsea have reached an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion to sign experienced striker Danny Welbeck.
The 35-year-old has agreed personal terms on a contract running until 2028 and is now set to undergo his medical before the transfer is officially completed.
Brighton approved Welbeck’s departure after the former England international formally requested to leave, paving the way for his return to one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
The deal comes just two days after Chelsea opened talks with Brighton over the striker, with negotiations progressing quickly to a full agreement.
Welbeck arrives off the back of his most prolific Premier League season, scoring 13 goals after registering 10 the previous campaign, highlighting his consistency and value despite his experience.
Chelsea view Welbeck as an ideal addition to Xabi Alonso’s squad, with his Premier League pedigree, leadership and physical presence fitting the club’s recruitment strategy this summer.
Meanwhile, Jordan Henderson is also expected to be part of Chelsea’s ongoing transfer plans, with further developments anticipated soon.
