Southampton manager Ivan Juric has praised Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu after his late goal secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Ipswich Town in the Premier League.

The Saints entered the encounter desperately needing a positive result, and Onuachu delivered three minutes before the final whistle to give Southampton only their second league win of the campaign.

Speaking to Softfootball, Juric said the striker deserved his moment after putting in a strong shift for the team throughout the match.

Joe Aribo had earlier given Southampton the lead in the first half before Liam Delap restored parity for Ipswich.

However, Onuachu reacted quickly late in the game after substitute Kamaldeen Sulemana’s effort was saved by goalkeeper Arijanet Muric.

The ball fell kindly to the Nigerian forward, who made no mistake from close range to seal all three points for the visitors.

It was Onuachu’s second Premier League goal of the season, and Juric believes the 30-year-old can add more goals if he continues working hard.

“It was a great moment. He deserved it because he really worked hard,” Juric said.
