Neymar is reportedly close to returning to his boyhood club Santos on loan from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.

The Brazil international is expected to join Santos for six months, with negotiations between the two clubs said to be progressing.

Neymar has reportedly made it clear that he wants to return to the club where he began his professional career before moving to Europe.

Softfootball reports that the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star had also been linked with a move to Major League Soccer, but Santos remain confident of completing the deal.

Financial issues, however, still need to be resolved before the transfer can be finalised, with a significant amount reportedly owed to Neymar by Al-Hilal.

The Brazilian forward made 225 appearances for Santos before leaving for Barcelona, scoring 136 goals and providing 64 assists.

A return to the club would represent an emotional homecoming for the 32-year-old, who is looking to revive his career after a difficult spell in Saudi Arabia.

Santos will now hope an agreement can be reached to bring their former star back to Brazil.
