Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has maintained that his side remains a work in progress despite suffering consecutive Premier League defeats at the end of 2024, Softfootball reports.

The Blues closed the year with disappointing losses to Fulham and Ipswich Town, ending a strong run of form that had lifted them into the top four of the Premier League standings.

Despite the recent setbacks, Maresca believes Chelsea have made significant progress this season and urged supporters not to lose faith in the team’s long-term development.

The Italian manager pointed to Chelsea’s current position in the league as evidence that the club is moving in the right direction, insisting few people expected the team to be among the Premier League’s leading sides at this stage of the campaign.

However, Maresca admitted there is still a considerable gap between Chelsea and the division’s elite clubs. He stressed that the squad must continue improving in consistency, performances and overall maturity if they are to compete for major honours in the future.

Chelsea currently sit fourth in the table with 35 points from 19 league matches as they prepare to begin the second half of the season.
