Erling Haaland has thrown his full support behind Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, insisting the players remain confident the Spaniard can guide the club through its difficult run of form.
Manchester City’s struggles continued with a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa, leaving the defending champions nine points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, who also have two games in hand.
Softfootball has learned Haaland addressed the club’s recent downturn during an interview with TNT Sports, expressing his belief in Guardiola’s ability to restore City’s fortunes.
Reflecting on the manager’s remarkable achievements, Haaland said:
He won the Premier League six times in seven years, so we will never forget that. He will find the solutions. He has been doing that every single year. We still believe in him, and we have to work harder than ever right now.
The Norwegian striker also accepted responsibility for his own performances, admitting he has not been clinical enough in front of goal during City’s recent struggles.
First, I’m looking at myself. I haven’t been doing things good enough, I haven’t been scoring my chances. I have to do better because I haven’t been good enough,
Haaland added.
