Bukayo Saka has admitted Monaco proved a tougher opponent than the scoreline suggested, despite scoring twice in Arsenal’s 3-0 Champions League win over the French side on Wednesday.
The England international was Arsenal’s standout performer on the night, but conceded his side made things harder than necessary by failing to kill the game off earlier.
Softfootball understands Saka reflected on the performance after the final whistle. He said:
It was a tough game because I felt like we didn’t punish them. We had a lot of chances to put the game to bed, especially in the first half, and we didn’t, so in the second half we had to suffer a bit.
Despite the nervy moments, Saka expressed satisfaction at getting the job done and continuing to deliver in the final third. He added:
In the end, we scored three goals and got the job done. We’ll take it. I’m just happy to help the team where I can.
