Arsenal have reached an agreement on personal terms with Bruno Guimarães as they step up their pursuit of the Newcastle United midfielder.
Softfootball reported earlier in July that Arsenal were preparing a formal proposal after an initial verbal offer worth around £55 million was turned down by Newcastle.
The Gunners are now preparing a new official bid worth £70 million, although Newcastle are expected to reject the opening offer as they remain determined to keep one of their most influential players.
Despite anticipating resistance, Arsenal believe a deal can still be completed, with Mikel Arteta continuing to push strongly for the Brazil international as a key addition to his midfield.
Guimarães has remained one of Arteta’s top transfer priorities throughout the summer, and Arsenal are now moving forward after agreeing all contractual terms with the player.
Negotiations between the clubs are expected to continue as Arsenal attempt to test Newcastle’s resolve before the transfer window closes.
