Arsenal legend Lukas Podolski believes Kai Havertz isn’t a natural fit as a out-and-out striker for the Gunners, suggesting his role could be better utilised elsewhere.
Speaking to talkSPORT, the former Germany international shared his honest assessment of where Havertz’s strengths truly lie within Mikel Arteta’s system.
Softfootball understands Podolski feels the forward could thrive more with a recognised striker playing ahead of him. He said:
I don’t know if when he was younger his position was a proper number nine, but for me he’s not a classic number nine striker. He does well, but I think when you put Kai behind a good striker he has more potential.
Podolski, though, remained optimistic about Arsenal’s overall trajectory under Arteta, praising the foundations being laid at the club. He added:
I think they’re building something great, good structure, good atmosphere, but we as the fans from outside, we want something at the end.
The German icon closed by expressing hope that this campaign finally delivers silverware for the club.
