Former Premier League winger Theo Walcott has revealed that he almost signed for Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United before ultimately choosing to join Arsenal.
During a recent interview on Monday Night Football, the Englishman explained how former Gunners manager Arsene Wenger convinced him to make the move back in two thousand and six when he was just seventeen years old.
Softfootball gathered that Walcott admitted other top clubs made late bids for his signature, but his mind was already set on Arsenal once Wenger got involved.
Recalling a memorable meeting at the manager’s house, Walcott noted how unusual the setup was, stating that the sofa was incredibly low and Wenger’s legs were actually higher than his face.
He also mentioned that playing alongside his idol Thierry Henry was a massive draw for him at that young age.
Walcott explained that his dream was always to play with a star of that caliber, noting that any young kid would jump at the chance to learn from their hero.
This reality made his decision to join the North London club a very easy choice indeed for the talented teenager.
