Eight points off the pace and sitting fourth in the table, Arsenal’s title defense looks shaky on paper, but Jurrien Timber isn’t buying into the doom around it.
A brutal early fixture list is largely to blame, the defender explained in comments to the club’s official website:
We had a difficult start with many difficult matches. We are now well behind Liverpool of course, but there are still many games to play in which anything can still happen. I still have a lot of confidence in the team.
Softfootball learnt that Timber also pointed to Sunday’s game against a much-improved Chelsea as proof the whole division has tightened up.
In his words:
It is all very close together. We had some moments this season when it was not easy. We have to leave that behind. Now we continue again.
Whether that confidence holds will depend on results, but for now Timber and Arsenal are refusing to concede the title race just yet.
