Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface has admitted he felt disappointed after missing out on a place in the 2024 CAF Player of the Year shortlist, insisting his performances last season were strong enough to earn recognition.
Boniface played a major role in Leverkusen’s historic campaign, helping the club win its first‑ever Bundesliga title before completing a domestic double with the DFB‑Pokal.
Despite his influence, he did not make the final shortlist, which included his Super Eagles teammates Ademola Lookman and William Troost‑Ekong.
Softfootball gathered, The 23‑year‑old said he is not dwelling on the decision but maintained that, based on his contributions, he believed he deserved to be among the contenders.
Boniface also revealed his pick for the award, backing Lookman to win it. He added that if he had been nominated, he would naturally have voted for himself.
