Porto striker Samuel Omorodion has explained why he now prefers to be known as Samuel Aghehowa, saying the decision is a tribute to his mother.
Softfootball understands that the Spanish forward, who joined Porto from Atletico Madrid during the summer transfer window, made the revelation while discussing his personal journey and the meaning behind his name change.
The young striker has enjoyed an impressive start to life in Portugal, establishing himself as one of Porto’s standout performers with a string of goals in the Portuguese top flight.
Speaking to Porto’s Revista Dragões magazine, Aghehowa said the change was motivated by his desire to honour his mother for the sacrifices she made throughout his life.
According to the striker, no amount of recognition can fully repay everything his mother has done for him, making it important to carry her surname as a lasting tribute.
Although many football fans already know him by his father’s surname, Omorodion, the 20-year-old said he now wants to build his career and identity under the name Aghehowa.
The forward added that the decision is deeply personal and reflects the gratitude he feels toward his mother, whose support has played a major role in his development both on and off the pitch.
