Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau has rewarded Nigeria’s Flying Eagles with a ₦2 million cash donation following their impressive victory over Côte d’Ivoire at the ongoing WAFU B U-20 Championship.
The gesture comes after Aliyu Zubairu’s side fought back to secure a 2-1 win over the Young Elephants in their final Group B fixture, a result that booked their place in the tournament’s semi-finals. Softfootball understands that the donation is aimed at motivating the defending champions as they continue their quest for another regional title and qualification for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
The Flying Eagles will now face Niger Republic in Saturday’s semi-final clash, with victory guaranteeing Nigeria a place at next year’s continental championship.

The second semi-final will see regional rivals Ghana take on Côte d’Ivoire for the remaining ticket to the final.
The 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations will be hosted by South Africa, with the tournament also serving as a pathway to the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Nigeria will be hoping to maintain their impressive form and take another step towards defending their WAFU B crown while securing a place among Africa’s elite youth teams.
