Chelsea have opened club-to-club negotiations with Rayo Vallecano over a potential move for 28-year-old Spanish left-back Pep Chavarría as the club continues strengthening its defensive options, Softootball reports.

Chavarría, who remains under contract with Rayo Vallecano until 2030, has established himself as a dependable La Liga performer since joining the club in 2022. The left-back is valued for his consistency, defensive awareness, and ability to operate effectively as a left wing-back, making him an attractive option for squad depth.

The move reflects Chelsea’s recruitment approach under manager Xabi Alonso, with the club looking to combine emerging talents with experienced players capable of providing immediate competition and stability. Initial contacts have reportedly been positive, with Chavarría said to be open to the possibility of moving to Stamford Bridge.

The Spanish defender would add another specialist option on the left side while bringing valuable top-flight experience from La Liga.

The development follows Everton FC’s agreement to sign 16-year-old Chelsea academy midfielder Arthur Barratt on a permanent deal. The move continues Everton’s focus on investing in young Premier League talent as they secure one of Chelsea’s promising academy prospects for the future.
