Alejandro Grimaldo has reportedly reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to facilitate his move to Atlético Madrid after already agreeing personal terms with the Spanish club, Softfootball understands.

The 30-year-old defender is said to be keen on returning to La Liga before the end of his career, with Atlético long viewed as the favourites to secure his signature despite interest from Barcelona and Manchester City.

Grimaldo’s departure will be a significant blow for Bayer Leverkusen. Since arriving under Xabi Alonso ahead of the 2023/24 season, the Spaniard has established himself as one of the club’s most influential players and a key figure in their success.
