Enzo Maresca is said to be the top candidate as the next Manchester City manager, Softfootball gathered from external sources. Before his sack from Chelsea on the 1st of January 2026, he was rumoured to have been contacted by Manchester United, however he denied it.
But now Maresca is no longer with Chelsea, who have hired Xabi Alonso as their new manager after sacking Liam Rosenior, it has come up again that City prefers him as a replacement for Pep Guardiola.
Italian clubs are also interested in Maresca. We do not know if he would sign for them, as there is still a very high possibility that Pep Guardiola will remain at Manchester City at least until the end of his contract, and there is no assurance Enzo Maresca will stay without a club waiting for City.
