José Mourinho has reacted to his reported link to Real Madrid, stating that his future should not be a reason for concern, as no one should worry whether he leaves or stays because Benfica is bigger than any individual.
Softfootball gathered earlier that Mourinho had been linked to Real Madrid as the club continues to face challenges, including a season without silverware in the 2025/26 campaign.
Mourinho added that Benfica had sent him a new contract proposal on Wednesday, 13th May 2026, however he stated “not now,” suggesting he could be ready to sign either on Sunday or later in the week.
The Portuguese manager also expressed unhappiness about the Mbappé vs Arbeloa situation at Real Madrid, stating that current Madrid manager Álvaro Arbeloa is his friend and someone he shares a strong bond with, adding that Arbeloa is one of his former players who gave him “soul and life.”
