Michael Carrick has opened up about his future as interim boss of Manchester United following their dramatic 3–2 victory over Liverpool in the Premier League.
Speaking after the match as reported by Manchester United via their YouTube channel, Carrick addressed growing calls for him to take the role permanently. When asked about the possibility, he responded cautiously, while emphasizing that his main focus is on helping players perform at their best and creating the right environment for success.
He said:
Yeah Maybe. I think that one of the biggest things for me is trying to get the best out of people and helping players and giving them the opportunity to go and perform and do what they are good at really.
Reflecting on the performance, Carrick praised his team’s tactical discipline and work rate. He highlighted how the side adapted by overloading midfield areas and closing central spaces to limit Liverpool’s attacking threats. Despite having dangerous forwards, he noted the importance of their defensive contribution, stressing that hard work off the ball is key to building a strong team.

Carrick also expressed satisfaction with his team’s resilience, particularly in managing difficult moments during the match. He credited the supporters for their role, noting how the energy from the crowd after conceding helped drive the team forward.
There was a lot today to be happy with really and to be like you said to be proud of. We thought players available wise would try and overload the midfield and it was going to be a challenge for us to try and close the space through the middle of the pitch. We got some really dangerous, dangerous forwards but we were asking them to do a lot of work without the ball as well and thats part of being a good team. So the way we closed that space and made it difficult for them. They’ve got some fantastic plays and they made it dificult for us but i thought the way we stuck at that especially really pleased me a lot. I have to say the way the supporters got behind us after the two goals.
