Behdad Eghbali has publicly defended Chelsea’s long-term project, insisting the ownership group remains fully committed to on-pitch success despite a difficult run of results, Softfootball reports.
Speaking at the CAA World Congress of Sports, as Fabrizio Romano revealed through his official X handle, Eghbali acknowledged recent mixed and disappointing performances, while noting the club had shown stronger form around six months earlier.
He stressed that the owners care deeply about Chelsea’s future and are actively reflecting on how to improve the team’s trajectory.
Romano posted:
Behdad Eghbali to Chelsea fans: We want the club to be successful. We’re focused on delivering that on-pitch performance. Six months ago everyone was super-happy. Results have been mixed, disappointing more recently. There’s a full reflection on what we can do better, said at CAA’s World Congress of Sports conference via @TheAthleticFC
Rosenior had previously emphasized the urgency of delivering results, particularly after Chelsea’s heavy 3–0 home defeat to Manchester City, a loss that intensified pressure around the club and reignited the title race.

In other quotes shared by Romano, Eghbali also made clear that Chelsea have no intention of constantly restarting the squad cycle. He stated the objective is to keep the club’s best players and avoid rebuilding every three or four years, signalling a desire for greater continuity after several transfer-heavy windows.
Behdad Eghbali:The objective is to keep your best players at Chelsea and we’ve done that. There’s NO intention to rebuild every three or four years. You tweak a model, you improve, you learn from mistakes, says at CAA World Congress via @TheAthleticFC.
The Chelsea co-owner also backed manager Liam Rosenior, saying he possesses every attribute needed to succeed long-term at Stamford Bridge. Despite a difficult spell over the last five or six matches, Eghbali pointed to Rosenior’s strong early start since replacing Enzo Maresca in January 2026.
Behdad Eghbali on Rosenior: We think he has every attribute to be successful here. He got off to a great start. We’ve had a tough past five, six matches, but I think we’re behind Liam. Of course, it’s a results business, but we think he can be successful long term.

Eghbali’s latest comments also align with reports that Chelsea may adjust their recruitment strategy by blending experienced, ready-made players with the club’s existing group of elite young talent. The aim would be to create more balance and consistency in performances.
Supporter reactions remain divided, with many frustrated by the ownership model of heavy youth investment and skeptical about promises of reflection and long-term planning. Others, however, see stability and patience as necessary for future success.
