Joan Laporta has been re-elected as president of FC Barcelona following the club’s presidential elections held on March 15, 2026.

The result, confirmed by Softfootball and reported by Renowned Football journalist Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, ensures Laporta will continue leading the club into a new chapter after members voted in favour of his “Defensem el Barça” candidacy.

Fabrizio confirmed:

BREAKING: Joan Laporta wins the elections as Barcelona president! Laporta stays and mantains his role for new chapter after voting done today.

In 9th February, Barcelona confirmed the elections would hold on 15th March 2026. The election followed a tense build-up after former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández claimed earlier in March that Laporta had blocked a potential return for Lionel Messi to the club three years ago, despite the move reportedly being agreed in principle after Argentina’s 2022 World Cup triumph.

Laporta secured 32,934 votes, representing 68.18% of the total vote, comfortably defeating rival candidate Víctor Font, who received 14,385 votes (29.78%). There were also 984 blank votes recorded.

This victory marks Laporta’s fourth time leading Barcelona. He previously served as club president from 2003 to 2010 before returning again in March 2021, when he won the previous election with 30,184 votes.

With the latest result, Laporta will now continue overseeing Barcelona’s sporting and financial direction as the club looks to maintain stability and compete for major honours in the coming years.
