Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has finally responded to the growing speculation linking him with a return to Liverpool, as pressure continues to mount on both sides.
It has been a difficult 2025 so far for the Reds, who have managed to win just 50 percent of their games in the calendar year. That drop in form has put serious strain on Arne Slot, despite the Dutchman lifting the Premier League title in his first season in charge.

Slot’s struggles have naturally sparked rumours about possible replacements, especially with recent clashes with Mohammed Salah, which Arne Slot has brutally addressed in a recent interview as revealed by Softfootball; however, Alonso’s name keeps resurfacing,, with fans divided on who to support between the winger and his manager.
The Spaniard is a club legend at Anfield after winning the Champions League as a player, and many supporters still hold him in very high regard.
With Liverpool’s recent inconsistency, those old connections are now being talked about again, maybe more than usual.

Interestingly, Alonso is also dealing with pressure of his own. Real Madrid suffered their third defeat in five league matches after a disappointing loss to Celta Vigo at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday.
Across all competitions, Madrid have won just two of their last six games, which has raised fresh questions about their form and direction. It is not the kind of run anyone expected from a Madrid side packed with quality.
When asked directly about the Liverpool links as revealed in a video posted via Fabrizio Romano’s official X account, Alonso kept his response measured and calm.

a bond with Liverpool. I’m in the place where I want to be [Real Madrid], you never know what will happen in the future”.@BeanymanSports 🎥 pic.twitter.com/thsQV0nQ8h
Alonso was also drawn into the recent controversy surrounding Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian forward gave a fiery interview after Liverpool’s draw with Leeds on Saturday and has since been left out of the Champions League squad to face Inter Milan on Tuesday night.

Asked for his opinion, Alonso chose to stay away from the drama, claiming it is an internal situation that should be handled within the club.
For now, both managers remain under the spotlight, and the next few weeks may decide how loud these rumours become.
