Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed via his official X handle that Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. striker Tolu Arokodare was subjected to online racial abuse following Wolves’ match against Crystal Palace F.C..
Softfootball understands the disturbing incident comes just a day after Wesley Fofana of Chelsea F.C. also faced racist messages following his red card in a 1-1 draw with Burnley F.C..
Romano posted:
After Wesley Fofana yesterday, Tolu Arokodare has been racially abused today as he states on his social media accounts. Wolves also release statement to support their player. We’re with you, Tolu
The Nigerian forward, who joined Wolves from KRC Genk in 2025 for €27 million after a reached agreement, had previously endured similar abuse in 2024 after missing a penalty.

Arokodare, 23, took to Instagram to express frustration at the lack of consequences for perpetrators, calling for stronger collective action to combat racism in football.
He stated:
It’s still unbelievable to me that we’re playing in a time where people have so much freedom to communicate such racism without any consequences. These individuals should have no place in our game and collectively we have to take action to punish everyone who taints the sport like this, no matter who they are.

Wolves responded with a firm statement condemning the hateful messages, pledging full support to their striker and confirming that the abuse had been reported to both social media platforms and relevant authorities. The club reiterated its zero-tolerance stance, aligning with broader Premier League initiatives to tackle the growing problem of online hate targeting players.
Elsewhere, Cancelo admitted he arrived out of shape following his time in Saudi Arabia. He pointed to the demanding training methods of manager Hansi Flick as instrumental in rebuilding his fitness and gradually restoring his sharpness and confidence on the pitch.
