The decision comes amid a difficult campaign for Wolfsburg, who currently find themselves battling to avoid relegation in the Bundesliga, with the managerial change seen as part of a wider shake-up within the club’s leadership structure.

Wolfsburg confirmed the departure of head coach Daniel Bauer, only hours after dismissal of sporting director Peter Christiansen who was relieved of his duties and placed on leave following the team’s recent match against Hamburger SV.

Recent defeats intensified pressure on both the coaching staff and the club’s sporting leadership, prompting the board to act as they attempt to stabilize performances and secure their Bundesliga status.

Despite the turmoil surrounding the coaching change, Wolfsburg also shared positive news regarding one of their most experienced players. Veteran goalkeeper Pavao Pervan has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2027.

The new deal means the 38-year-old goalkeeper will enter his ninth season with Wolfsburg after joining the club from LASK in July 2018. His experience is expected to remain valuable as the team fights to regain stability during a challenging period.
