Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede has insisted Nigeria will approach their remaining 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda with a winning mentality despite being on the brink of qualification.

Softfootball understands that the Super Eagles need just one point from their final two Group D fixtures to secure a place at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco. Nigeria currently lead the group with 10 points after recording three wins and one draw from four matches.

Ogunmodede stressed that the technical crew is focused on winning every game rather than calculating the number of points required to qualify.

He explained that the immediate objective is to seal qualification before maintaining the team’s desire to finish the campaign with maximum points, in line with head coach Austin Eguavoen’s philosophy.

The assistant coach also expressed confidence in the 23-man squad selected for the upcoming qualifiers, describing the players as capable and experienced enough to represent Nigeria.

He noted that most of the invited players are familiar faces, with defender Gabriel Osho returning after recovering from injury and surgery, while striker Umar Sadiq also earned a recall following his return to full fitness.

Ogunmodede further praised Eguavoen’s commitment to monitoring the domestic league, revealing that the inclusion of Victor Collins reflects the coach’s confidence in the defender after several impressive performances in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

According to him, Collins’ left-footed qualities and consistent displays made him a deserving addition to the Super Eagles squad.
