“We have a problem!” Chelsea boss Maresca cries out

Chelsea’s boss, Enzo Maresca, has cried out that his side is struggling due to the injury, battling the London club, Softfootball reports.

Sources close to the London club have told Softfootball that the Blues are presently monitoring the fitness of Levi Colwill after the England defender picked up a fresh injury in training, casting doubt over his availability for the club’s new season plans.

Head coach Enzo Maresca revealed the setback during media duties on Tuesday, confirming that Colwill has not trained in the last 48 hours and remains a doubt, with no clear return timeline yet established.

As corroborated by Fabrizio Romano via his X handle, Maresca said:

“We had a problem the last two days about Levi Colwill.

“We don’t know how long he will be out for. Hopefully not too long. It’s a problem.”

Colwill, who impressed during his breakout season with Chelsea last term and was part of the England squad at Euro 2024, is viewed as a key piece of Maresca’s plans heading into the new Premier League campaign.

The 21-year-old had started the summer strongly and was expected to form a central part of the Blues’ new-look defensive structure under the former Leicester boss.

Having confirmed Marc Cucurella’s stay at Chelsea, despite an earlier reported offer from Al Nassr, as previously reported by Softfootball on Tuesday, Colwill has sent a cold chill down Maresca and the entire Chelsea spine.

But Maresca’s cautious tone suggests Chelsea will not rush him back. The hope inside Cobham is that Colwill’s issue is not muscular and can be resolved in days rather than weeks, though Maresca made it clear that more medical assessment is required before any decision is made.

Chelsea will play their first game after winning the maiden FIFA Club World Cup on Friday, against Erik Ten Hag’s Bayer Leverkusen.
