Benfica have reached a verbal agreement with Union Saint-Gilloise for Croatian striker Franjo Ivanovic valued at €25million.
Softfootball understands that Benfica representatives, led by Rui Pedro Braz, arrived Brussels on Sunday to negotiate the transfer of the striker wanted by top clubs in Europe.

Ivanovic is one of the most coveted young striker’s in Europe and Benfica are looking to close the deal this week, according to German football expert, Florian Plettenberg. He claims via his X handle that the Portuguese side already have a verbal agreement in place.
He said:
“Talks between Union Saint-Gilloise and SL Benfica over a permanent deal for 21 y/o striker Franjo #Ivanovic are in full swing.
“Several teams are trying to hijack the deal, but SL Benfica are still in pole position. The deal is valued at up to €25 million. A verbal agreement until at least 2028 is already in place.”
Benfica failed recently recently to re-sign Joao Felix as the Chelsea forward joined Saudi Arabia side, Al Nassr. Now, they have switched their attention to signing Ivanovic and are close to full agreement for the striker.
Ivanovic is a young, physically strong forward known for his dribbling skills, shooting ability with both feet, and knack for being in the right place at the right time. He’s a versatile player, capable of playing as a center-forward or attacking midfielder, and is also noted for his defensive contributions.
While he possesses many strengths, he’s still developing his decision-making and finishing skills, but has the potential to become a top player.

Interestingly, he was let go by Bundesliga outfit Augsburg after failing to break into the first team, which forced the club to sell him to Rijeka in 2023. He became an instant hit in Croatia, scoring 16 goals in 51 appearances before moving to Belgium to team up Union Saint-Gilloise last season.
Ivanovic became an instant hit with his eyes for goal, netting 21 gaols in 47 matches in his first season. 16 of the goals came in 34 league matches and inspired the team to winning their first title since the 1930s.
Ivanovic has already scored this during Union Saint-Gilloise’s Super Cup defeat to Club Brugge last Sunday.
